WEEK AT A GLANCE

Literacy Workshop

Opinion Writing: We started the first week back with book reviews. We’ve been taking all that we’ve learned about stating our opinion, giving reasons, adding details, and including comparisons to recommend books to others.

Reading/Phonics: We’ve almost completed our vowel team inquiry. We’ve added UE, EW, AU, and AW to our toolboxes. We have ONE MORE space left in our toolbox and we really wonder what it’ll be! Next week we’ll get to see what Rasheed’s blueprints are all about.

We’re also working on fluency by watching out for all the clues writers leave us to help us know HOW to read the text. Rumor has it that Kindergartners are in need of some new classroom audiobooks and we’re up for the job. We’re working on perfecting one text so that we can record it for the kindergarten classrooms to listen to. Stay tuned!

Math: This week we entered the fairytale world of Hansel and Gretel who create and mark paths by dropping pebbles every 10 steps. This analogy is used to provide path like number lines that give students opportunities to explore numbers over 100.
