Celebration Cinema Field Trip: On Friday, May 17 we will be traveling to Celebration Cinema for a field trip. Recently the first grade teachers were contacted by the Director of Group and Programming Events at Celebration Cinema inquiring for permission to take some photos during our visit to use for promotion. The photos would be used on their social platforms, the Celebration Cinema website, and print marketing. If you would prefer that your child not be included in any of these photos for Celebration Cinema, please contact me by March 28.
Additionally, for our field trip on May 17 from 8:30-10:50, we can have as many parents join as possible, so please fill out this form if you plan to attend. If you are planning to attend this trip as a parent then you will need to purchase tickets/popcorn in advance. Parent tickets are $6 and the drink/popcorn combo is $5. You can select only a movie ticket or ticket/combo for $11. You can send in cash or a check made out to Lakeside Elementary with your child or drop it off in the office! Thanks!
Running Club: Get ready to be Part of the Pride! Running Club will be starting April 9 when we return from Spring Break. Please click here for all of the fun information!
WEEK AT A GLANCE
Reading: We’ve been learning that readers don’t just need tools to read WORDS, but we need tools to UNDERSTAND what we're reading too. Here are some of the tools we’ve been using:
- Reread if you’re not understanding
- Make a movie in your mind to visualize what’s happening
- Pay attention to dialogue and who’s talking
Word Study: VOWEL TEAMS GALORE! We are creating our own personalized “vowel teams” charts to use as another tool in our toolbox when we get stuck on vowel teams when we read and write. So far we’ve added EA, EE, AI, OA, AY, and OU.
Tip-Help point out these vowel teams to your child when you read together.
Math: We started Unit 7 this week. We are continuing to develop a deeper understanding of numbers to 120 as we estimate, count, compare, add and subtract two-digit quantities. During the unit will be using sticks and bundles; dimes, nickels and pennies; and number lines.
State Representative Phil Skaggs joined us for March is Reading month and explained his job at our capital and read to us!
