WEEK AT A GLANCE
Reading/Phonics: The SSDA (Super Secret Detective Agency) is continuing to challenge us now that we’re official agents. This week we focused on how Word Detectives Use Snap Words to Read:
We used snap words as clues to think about what world make sense when we got stuck on a word
We solved mystery words by thinking of similar snap words
Writing: We’ve been making sure that our snap words are spelled correctly in our writing and that we’re making sure to let our readers know whether our vowels are short or long by using the silent e when needed. We’ve also been using a checklist to make sure we have all the parts needed in How-To writing.
Math: This week our focus was again on addition and subtraction facts. We used the Number Rack as a tool to help recognize number combinations (primarily to 10), subitize
SEL Lesson: Feeling Frustrated
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn to use body language and context clues to figure out when someone feels frustrated. They’ll practice looking at the person’s face and body, as well as thinking about what’s going on in the situation. They’ll also learn about a new strategy for feeling calm when they get frustrated: slow counting.
Classroom Volunteers: Its officially time I ask for help. :) I would love help preparing for upcoming math units and projects. Please sign-up here if you would be willing to volunteer in the classroom. Thank you in advance for your help.
