If you aren't familiar, Jimmy Gerken ("Kabookie") was an East Grand Rapids alumni who had a profound impact on our community for being an exceptional role model of kindness and friendship. WEEK AT A GLANCE ELA : Not only are our nonfiction texts full of longer and harder words, but also expert words that pertain to the topic we’re reading about. We discussed how it’s important not to just breeze past these words, but to stop and think about what these words actually mean.  We’ve also been getting to know some common phonograms that end in blends ( -ump, -ock, -ash, -unk, -ack, -uck, -ing, -ish ) Knowing these endings helps us to recognize the ending as a “part” and not just isolated sounds. This year we visit the world of Maestro Mouse and music from Dan Brown’s Wild Symphony . A great first orchestra experience, this lively program is designed for younger students (ages 4-7) and features Dan Brown’s book, Wild Symphony , as a way to connect music, visual art, movement, and social-emotional learning.  Please send your child with their booster on Thursday!
